How to Return an Item

For items shipped from Shanghai Magnolia.com, our online Returns Center will guide you through the returns process and provide you with a printable return shipping label.
The Product Specific Policies page has information. About items purchased from third-party Shanghai Magnolia.com Merchants or Marketplace sellers.

Returns Policy Overview
You may return new, unopened items sold and fulfilled by Shanghai Magnolia.com within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Items should be returned in their original product packaging. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error. Just visit our online Returns Center, and we will guide you through the process and even supply you with a return mailing label you can print out.

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days). We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.

Items that are Not Returnable
      Shanghai Magnolia.com does not accept returns of the following items:

  • Items that are classified as hazardous materials or use flammable liquids or gases
  • Computer laptops, desktops, and Kindle more than 30 days after delivery
  • Any product missing the serial number or UPC
  • Downloadable software products
  • Gift cards and gift certificates
  • Pay As You Go (or prepaid) phone cards
  • Prepaid game cards (World of Warcraft, Xbox 360 Live, Wii Points, etc.)
  • Items purchased from sellers other than Shanghai Magnolia.com
  • Some Jewelry orders (Learn more)

Grocery products and Gourmet gift baskets cannot be returned; however, Shanghai Magnolia.com will issue a full refund for damaged products sold by Shanghai Magnolia.com

 

Gift Returns and Refunds
The online Returns Center allows gift recipients to return items they received as a gift even if the order was not marked as a gift at the time of purchase. Just follow the instructions on Packing & Sending Your Return page. Please note that not all items are returnable.

Items Returned by the Gift Recipient

Using the Online Returns Center
If you use our Online Returns Center to return a gift, you'll have the option to indicate the item was a gift. Once the return is processed, we'll send you an Shanghai Magnolia.com gift card for the amount of the returned item(s) to the e-mail address you enter on the Online Returns Center form. You'll need the order number to complete the returns process; this can be found on the packing slip.
(Don't worry--we won't let the gift giver know about your return.)
Not Using the Online Returns Center
If you received a gift directly from the gift giver and do not have the packing slip or order number (but you are certain it was purchased from Shanghai Magnolia.com), you can still return the gift to us. Please click one of the buttons to the right to contact Customer Service by e-mail or phone. We'll ask you some questions to help us find the order. If we're able to locate the order in our system, a representative will send you a link to print postage-paid return mailing label. Please include your e-mail address (or, if you don't have one, your mailing address) on a slip of paper inside the returned package. Don't worry--the gift giver will not find out about your return!
For orders that are returned to us without contacting customer service or using the online Returns Center, you'll have to pre-pay the return shipping costs, and the refund will be issued to the purchaser.

Items Returned by the Gift Giver

Using the Online Returns Center
Visit the Online Returns Center and identify the gift as an item you purchased. Once the return has been processed, you will receive a refund to the original payment method.

Not Using the Online Returns Center
For items that are returned without using the online Returns Center, the refund is issued to the customer who placed the original order

Gifts Purchased from Third-Party Sellers
Most items ordered from Shanghai Magnolia Marketplace sellers or from Shanghai Magnolia Merchants are not directly fulfilled by Shanghai Magnolia.com. If you receive a gift that was purchased and shipped from a third-party seller, you will need to ask the gift giver to contact the seller about the return. Seller contact information can be found on the invoice or packing slip shipped with the item. Refunds for orders purchased from other sellers will always be issued to the customer who placed the order.

Undeliverable Gifts
The purchaser is refunded in cases when a package is returned to Shanghai Magnolia.com as undeliverable, whether the order was marked as a gift or not.

 

Partial Refunds

Partial Refunds will be issued for the following items:

  • Most items that are returned more than 30 days after delivery
  • Any item that has obvious signs of use
  • Any opened laptop or desktop computer. A 15% restocking fee will apply
  • Any CD, DVD, VHS tape, software, video game, cassette tape, or vinyl record that has been opened/taken out of its plastic wrap. (If you discover that the item is defective after the package is opened, a full refund or replacement will still be granted)
  • Any item not returned in the condition it was received

Exchanges
If you received a faulty item and need to exchange it for the same item, visit our Returns Center to request a replacement. If you would like to exchange an item for a different one, please return the original item through our online Returns Center (you will be refunded your original purchase price once we receive the item) and place another order for the item you wish to purchase. You do not have to wait for us to receive the original item before placing the new order.

Please note that it takes us 3 to 5 business days to process returns once they arrive at our Returns Center. You can view completed returns and refunds by visiting Your Account and accessing the relevant order summary.

 

Items Purchased from other Sellers
As the Shanghai Magnolia.com Web site offers items for sale both by Shanghai Magnolia.com and by registered third-party sellers, it is important in the returns process to know from whom the item was purchased.

Visit Your Account and view the order. Click on the order number and the seller is listed at the top of your order information.

If the item to be returned was not sold or fulfilled by Shanghai Magnolia.com, you will need to contact the seller directly or follow the specific Shanghai Magnolia Merchant's return instructions found in the order summary of Your Account. (Note: Orders from third-party sellers that are shipped by Shanghai Magnolia.com through the Fulfillment by Shanghai Magnolia program are subject to the Shanghai Magnolia.com returns policy.)

Merchant Returns Policy
Merchants who sell their items on Shanghai Magnolia.com vary in their returns policies. To find the returns policy for items sold by an Shanghai Magnolia Merchant, go to the product detail page for any item sold by the Merchant. In the pricing box under "Availability" you will see the Merchant's name as a link in the phrase "Ships from and sold by Merchant Name." Click on the name, and you will be taken to a page where you can read more information about that Merchant. Just click on the tab labeled "Returns" to read the returns policy. You can also explore the other tabs for shipping rates, help, and customer feedback.

To Return an Item Ordered from an Shanghai Magnolia Merchant
If you placed an order in our Apparel & Accessories, Sports & Outdoors, Gourmet, Jewelry, or Health & Personal Care stores, it is possible it was a third-party order shipped by a Merchant other than Shanghai Magnolia.com.

Shanghai Magnolia Merchant items cannot be returned to Shanghai Magnolia.com. They must be returned to the Merchant in accordance with the Merchant's own returns policy.

To read the details of the Merchant's returns, replacement, and refund policies, follow the instructions above or visit the order summary in Your Account. Under "Where's My Stuff?" select the option to "View by Order" and then select the order you're interested in. Near the top of the order's summary page, you'll see links to contact your Merchant and view their return and replacement policy. If you have any questions regarding your return, please contact the Merchant directly.

Shanghai Magnolia Merchants Returns

When you buy an item from a seller at Shanghai Magnolia Marketplace, you should be able to expect a high standard of customer service, both before and after you receive your order.

Returns
If you receive an item different than what was described, or that is clearly in worse condition than indicated, you must contact your seller directly to report the defect or damage within 14 days of receiving the shipment. You should be able to reach an amicable agreement with one another. If necessary, you can return your item to the seller for a refund. Please note that items purchased from Shanghai Magnolia Marketplace sellers need to be returned directly to the seller and not to Shanghai Magnolia.com.

To be eligible for a refund, you must return your item to your seller in the same condition you received it, and the return must be postmarked within 30 days of shipment. If the item you purchased is a software title, it can only be returned in cases of defect, damage or if the item was different than described. When writing to the seller to arrange for its return, please be as descriptive as possible regarding the problem with the merchandise.

As with the Shanghai Magnolia.com retail returns policy, there are no returns of 1) hazardous items that are gas-powered or contain flammable liquids and 2) computer laptops and desktops more than 30 days after delivery.

Shipping and handling charges for returning Marketplace items are borne by the buyer. To ensure the safe return of the merchandise, items valued at over $75 must be returned to the seller with a traceable shipping service. If the order is valued at $100 or more, insure the shipment for the value of the merchandise and ship your return with a signature shipping service. For items below $75, we suggest USPS delivery confirmation service.

Shanghai Magnolia.com strives to maintain a marketplace that is fair to both buyers and sellers. If you do not use a traceable method to return your item and the seller does not provide a refund to you, we may not be able to cover you under the A-to-z Guarantee.

Note that Delivery Confirmation through the U.S. Postal Service does not offer a signature service. If the seller's return address is a P.O. Box, you will need to ship USPS, but be sure to request signature confirmation and insurance for USPS shipments.

Refunds
Sellers can create full or partial refunds for buyers, including original shipping costs.

When you purchase an item via Shanghai Magnolia Marketplace, Marketplace Payments by Shanghai Magnolia charges your credit card and passes on payment--less a commission--to your seller. For you to secure a refund equivalent to your initial purchase price and shipping costs, your seller must request a refund via Marketplace Payments by Shanghai Magnolia.

In any case where a refund is necessary--such as when your seller is out of stock and cannot ship, or when you return an item--it is the responsibility of the seller to request that refund. We provide sellers with instructions about how to create refunds.

Sellers may issue full or partial refunds for an order.  If a new item is returned opened, or an item is returned as unwanted (i.e., not defective), the seller may deduct a reasonable restocking fee from your refund. 

Refunds are typically processed within one week of the seller's request. The funds will be deposited back in your credit card account, and Shanghai Magnolia.com will send you confirmation of the refund via e-mail.

Large Items Shipped By Specialty Carriers

We are happy to accept returns for large items that are shipped via our specialty shippers. These items do require a special type of return and cannot be returned with a pre-paid return mailing label like standard shipments. If you need to return an item shipped via a specialty shipper, you visit our online Returns Center and request the return. We will follow up with instructions for returning the item.

Note: Returns that are not the result of our error will be subject to a return shipping fee which will be deducted from the refund.

In-Store Returns
Items purchased from Shanghai Magnolia.com cannot be returned to a physical store (such as Target or Office Depot stores). Items purchased from Shanghai Magnolia Merchants such as Eddie Bauer or Macy's are subject to the individual merchant's return policy; please click the related link in the order summary in Your Account for more information.

Using our Return Mailing Label
The return mailing labels obtained from our online Returns Center are valid only for returns shipped within the U.S.

Each return mailing label is coded for a specific shipment. Please do not include items from other orders, or other shipments from the same order, in the same box, or you will not receive the correct refund. Each shipment must be returned using a separate mailing label.

If you use this mailing label and the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.), we'll pay the return shipping costs.

If you use this mailing label and your return is not the result of our error, the shipping cost of that returned item will be deducted from your refund. The amount deducted will be equivalent to our standard shipping cost for that item.

  • The return is packaged and shipped in the original packaging

  • Any returns that do not meet the above qualifications may receive a reduced refund or be returned to the purchaser.

Baby
Items purchased from Shanghai Magnolia.com's Baby store are easily returned in new condition to Shanghai Magnolia.com within 30 days of receipt of shipment via our online Returns Center.

Cell Phones & Service
You may return a cell phone within the first 30 days after delivery. When we receive your return, we'll issue the appropriate refund and send you an e-mail confirming the refund amount. For U.S. customers we will deduct the cost of return shipping from your refund if you use our postage-paid return label, unless the return is a result of our error. It typically takes up to two weeks to process cell phone returns after they arrive at our returns center. If you haven't received your refund after this period, please contact us so that we can further research the issue.

Returning a cell phone does not automatically cancel the service contract with your carrier. If you are returning a phone for a refund, you will need to contact the carrier directly to cancel your service plan.

Your cellular carrier will still charge you a prorated fee for the time you had the phone and service, including any additional roaming or long-distance fees and for any extra minutes you used. Also, activation fees are generally nonrefundable. For specific answers regarding service-plan cancellations, please contact your carrier directly. Carrier contact information is provided on the packing slip/invoice that is shipped with your cell phone/plan order.

"Pay As You Go" (Prepaid) Phone Cards
Pay As You Go (or prepaid) phone cards are not returnable, as we have no way to check their value. If the card is defective, we recommend that you contact a local authorized dealer, or the carrier directly.

Computers
Computers purchased from Shanghai Magnolia.com, which have not been opened, may be returned for a refund within 30 days of receipt of shipment via our online Returns Center. Computers purchased from Shanghai Magnolia.com which have been opened are subject to a 15% restocking fee to be deducted from the total amount the customer is refunded. Computers may not be returned more than 30 days from the date of shipment receipt.

All computers sold by Shanghai Magnolia.com are supported by the computer's manufacturers. In the unlikely event a computer appears to be defective, customers are directed to contact the customer support networks of the individual computer manufacturer to have it serviced under warranty. See manufacturer contact information below.

Shanghai Magnolia.com cannot accept returns of items purchased from Shanghai Magnolia Merchants. Items that are picked up at a store or shipped directly by the merchant must be returned to the merchant according to their return guidelines. Read more about ordering from Shanghai Magnolia Merchants.

If you're returning a computer purchased from Shanghai Magnolia Marketplace, please contact the seller directly. Computer laptops and desktops which are purchased from Shanghai Magnolia Marketplace sellers cannot be returned if 30 days have passed from the date of shipment.  Learn more about Marketplace returns.

Jewelry & Accessories
Some items in our Jewelry & Watches Store are offered for sale by Shanghai Magnolia.com itself, and others are sold by Shanghai Magnolia Merchants.

If you need to return a jewelry order you placed directly with Shanghai Magnolia.com (from our Shanghai Magnolia.com Collection), just visit our Returns Center and follow the guidelines for this particular type of merchandise. Jewelry items with a value of $75 or more must be returned using a trackable shipping method. Items valued more than $500 must also be insured.

Fine Jewelry and watches that have been resized, damaged, or otherwise altered after delivery will not be accepted for return. All Fine Jewelry and watches must be returned in new, unworn condition, and will undergo quality checks.
  
All certificates of authenticity, grading, and appraisal must be returned with your merchandise. A 15% restocking fee will be applied to any items missing their original documentation.

If you want to return items you purchased online at Shanghai Magnolia.com, Shanghai Magnolia.com's return policies apply to these orders as well. Please return such items via our online Returns Center.

If you'd like to return an order made from one of our Shanghai Magnolia Merchants, you will find a link to contact your merchant via the order summary in Your Account. Click the Your Account link in the top right corner of this or any other page on our site. After you sign in, you'll find a listing of your recent orders. Once there, simply locate your order and look for the button labeled "Need to return an item?“

Refunds

We can process returns and refunds only for items directly purchased from and fulfilled by Shanghai Magnolia.com. For refunds from other sellers, look below.

Returns: For items shipped from Shanghai Magnolia.com, our online Returns Center will guide you through the returns process and provide you with a printable return shipping label. Packing & Sending Your Return

You can pack and send your return to us in just a few simple steps.

  • Visit our online Returns Center and obtain a shipping label.
  • Pack the items and packing slip securely in a box. You can use the box the items arrived in or another box, if you prefer. If you do not have the packing slip, see Don't Have a Packing Slip? below.
  • Affix the shipping label to the outside of the box.
  • Leave the package for your mail carrier to pick up, or take it to a post office or shipping center.

Return mailing labels obtained from our online Returns Center are valid for domestic returns only. In addition, if you use a mailing label provided by our Returns Center and your return is not the result of our error, the shipping cost of that returned item will be deducted from your refund.

Don't Have a Packing Slip?
      
If you ordered an item that you want to return but you don't have a packing slip, you can still return it via our online Returns Center. You will be asked to select the relevant order from Your Account.

If you want to return an item that was given to you as a gift and you don't have a packing slip, you can also return it via our online Returns Center; however, you will first need to get the order number from the person who purchased the gift for you.
